Teaching Philosophy and Activities

With regard to teaching, my passion and dedication are second to none. Decades of experience have produced prize-winning students at state, regional, and national levels. Many pianists from my studio, and through my work at the Adamant Music School, are presently in established musical careers as teachers and performers throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. Greenfield Piano Associates is an ongoing adventure in pianism for those involved.

It is my belief that each student is a unique gift, and I strive to give each a personal connection to both the instrument and his or her individual musical voice. A course of study is designed for each pianist, according to wants and needs. No stone is left unturned!

A deep, thorough understanding of the pianists’ repertoire and technique, use of the physical mechanism, and natural laws of motion governing piano playing continue to guide me in my work. An added aspect is the ability to help rescue pianists suffering from injury. With regard to piano playing, pain is not gain!

My basic approach is through the ear and soul. It is based upon sound, simplicity, economy of motion, and understanding, always guided by the score, revealing the composer’s intent.

teaching02-350pxThe principles of Edwine Behre, Abby Whiteside, Claudio Arrau, Freda Rosenblatt, and Dorothy Taubman form the foundation upon which my art as a pianist and teacher is built. In addition, along the way many brains were picked; notably, James Ball, Irene Rosenberg Grau, Julio Esteban, John Perry, Walter Hautzig, Leon Fleischer, Claude Frank, Martin Canin, and Lorin Hollander.

I feel honored to have had the opportunity to fully develop as an artist under the awe inspiring guidance of Edwine Behre, Adamant Music School founder and Leschetizky protégé. Through Edwine Behre, Leschetizky, and Czerny I trace a heritage back to Beethoven. This heritage is passed on to those who work with me.

I eagerly await the next motivated pianist, young or old, who chooses to discover and develop more fully.
